My credo
While leading Coming of Age in 2015, I wrote this as an example of a UU credo. It is all true for me.
I believe that the holy resides in everything and is transcendent.
I believe that prophets have changed the world throughout time and can inspire us to do good and challenge the status quo.
I believe that we are all children of God - and that Jesus was a human prophet, a child of God in the same way as you and I. I believe that from the stories we have about him that Jesus fought oppression and greed and was killed for speaking out to change.
I believe that we all have the capacity for incredible good and evil. Evil comes from humans who do not handle their pain well and attempt to feel better by inflicting their own pain on others. Unfortunately for them, this does not help but causes them yet more pain.
I believe that it is my responsibility to create a more just world - a world where everyone has enough of what they need and where everyone knows that they are enough.
I believe that every being is precious, worthy and loved. All beings are blessings and can choose to bless the world.
I believe that everything is connected - we cannot be free unless all are free and what we do has an effect on others.
I believe that whatever we put our into the world returns to us. I believe that there is power in naming our needs and desires.
